The relationship between focus and burrs in laser micro-cutting

The development of laser micro-cutting technology is inseparable from the challenge of fine requirements. From traditional mechanical knife cutting to laser cutting to laser micro-cutting technology, cutting quality and cutting accuracy have been continuously improved. The existence of burrs requires continuous upgrading and improvement of laser cutting technology and processes. The impact of focus position on burrs will be introduced in detail below.

When the laser cutting focus position is on the board surface, we call it a positive focus; if the focus position is below the board surface, it is a negative focus. focus position
It will affect the size of the slit. For example, when the focus position is 4 mm above the board surface (positive four focus points), the slit will be very wide. When the focus position moves downward to 2 mm above the board surface (positive second focus), the slit will become smaller. When the focus position gradually moves toward the layout position and shrinks, the slit will become smaller. When exactly on the board surface (zero focus), the kerf is smallest. As the focus position continues to move downward from the layout to 4 mm, the slit will become larger and larger. From positive focus to negative focus, the slit will first become smaller and then larger.

Masters who have actually operated laser micro-cutting should know very well that after laser cutting at different focus positions, they will find that the size of the slit changes with the change of the focus position, but the smallest position of the slit is at the zero focus.

It turns out that the position of the focus not only affects the size of the cutting slit, but also the size of the burrs. If laser cutting is performed at different focus positions under the same parameters, it will be found that the size of the burrs is the same as the size of the slit, and the size of the burrs also changes with the focus. The amount of burrs changes with the change of position. When the focus position is too high or too low, the burrs will increase. Therefore, if you want to reduce burrs, the zero focus position must be found accurately to ensure the quality of laser micro-cutting products.

When the focus position is too high, cutting will be incomplete and the cutting efficiency will be low; if the focus position is low, the cross-section will be rough and the cutting quality will be poor. While requiring cutting quality and ensuring cutting efficiency, it is necessary to debug and select the focus position. For skilled operators, the focus position can be easily found, so debugging is quick.
